For our Filipino, we had a trip to the Landfill. When we arrived, from what we expected, the place didn't really smell that bad. We went inside their office which smelled a little bit. They said it was just floor wax. Some of us couldn't stand the smell that they went outside the office to get some "fresh" air.
After the orientation, we "toured" the place. We went up a small hill to go to the part where they dump all the garbage. We walked only to find out that there are residences in that place. We really couldn't believe our eyes that people could stand and live there. They are the so-called "Scavengers". For them, GARBAGE IS GOLD. While walking, we found a lot of stuff. There were beat-up shoes, broken glass, POOP and a whole lot more.
Upon going to the "almost-at-the-so-called-cliff" part of the hill, the smell got intenser and intenser. I couldn't stand it no more. I almost barfed at the sight of a pile of garbage bombarded with "big" flies. Some of us decided to leave that part fast. We couldn't cover our noses. Why? because they told us that if we did that, the scavengers might hit us with garbage. They think that we did that because they smell, not the garbage. We might also offend them if we did.
Some of us even "partially" barfed but "yuckily" swallowed it. I personally couldn't open my mouth because I'm afraid that the smell might go inside my mouth.
After the trip, I wanted to go home badly. Some of my friends decided to go with me. So we told the jeepney driver to drop us near my house.
We did some things at my house, some of us even decided to take a bath to get rid of the smell. After that, we went back to school.
I'm telling you this not because I want you to be grossed out, but to let you be aware of what our environment is facing right now.
